Are you a very experienced walker, and do you like a challenge? Then the Challenge Roca Route is a good option for Saturday!
The Challenging route
Via the beach and the suburbs, you will head towards the mountains, where your climbing skills will be tested. Enjoy the beautiful mountainous nature reserve just north of Marbella and the picturesque village of Ojén to the south. On the narrow rocky paths, you can only walk side by side with two people at the most, so you can focus all your attention on the trees and plants along the way, not to mention the beautiful vistas towards the coast and inland. After experiencing this natural paradise, you walk back to the Walking Village via the suburbs and the city centre.
What you need to know
This route goes through a protected nature reserve; there is minimal signage, and the checkpoints with the associated services are only in inhabited areas again. To ensure the safety of hikers, there are volunteers in the mountains who can lend a helping hand if necessary. Since this is a more challenging route than usual at our M4DW event, you must sign a disclaimer. Also, the start is early, between 7.30 and 8.00 am, so you are back before 4 pm. You can choose this Challenge Roca Route of around 20-25 kilometres during registration.
Already registered for the 20 or 30-kilometre route
If you are already registered, you can exchange the regular Saturday route for this Challenge Route. Only a limited number of participants are allowed, which is in our first year, a maximum of 300 participants, and we will register on a first come, first serve
Start your day with a nice cup of coffee at the Walking Village. Alongside the route, you will find bars and restaurants serving various foods and drinks. We know our walkers well, so where you most need to refresh your energy, you will find a food station with snacks, coffee and other refreshments.
Our volunteers will scan your chip at the different checkpoints you will pass. In this way, we more or less know where you are and know that you've walked the route altogether. You can use the restrooms at these checkpoints, and there will be refreshments.
You will always walk with others. Our safety cars will always be on the route to help out if needed and coordinate with the police and ambulances, who are present along the way. And in case of an emergency during the event, you can always call us on our emergency number at +34 623 329 969. (also printed in your Info Guide)
On Wednesday the 4th of October, you can pick up your credentials registration at the administration tent between 10.00 and 16.00 hrs. If you have not completed your inscription yet, our volunteers will help you to sign up online while at the Plaza.
There are different starting times, depending on the number of kilometres you choose and these are between 8.00 - 11.00 hrs. (Challenge route Saturday starts at 07.30 hrs) All walkers have to be back before 16.00 hrs to have this day counted as one of the four days. You only receive your medal after completing four days.
The best kick-off for your adventure in Marbella is our White Party on Wednesday. On the other days, we invite you to enjoy the festive ambience with live performances and DJ’s from noon till early evening. There’s music, food and drinks, you only have to bring your party mood and enough energy to dance!
